If you are using the jig without a ONEWAY Wolverine Grinding Jig, you will need to grind the 65° angle on the front of the gouge freehand. Next put the gouge in the Vari-grind and line up the bevel you just ground with the grinding wheel and with the jig touching the bench in front of your grinder. Mark where the jig touched and drill a dimple.

Nov 02, 2008· I'm very much a novice at turning and the Wolverine setup. For a bowl gouge, the instructions on the DVD for the Vari-Grind jig seem very clear. Following the instructions, I took a new bowl gouge right out of the box and produced the swept-back sides in a fairly short time.

The basic jig is composed of two bases, a 3" × 5" grinding platform, and a 27 3/4" long adjustable V-arm. Both the platform and the V-arm attachments can be used in either base, allowing you to have concurrent set-ups or to switch between fine and coarse wheels.

First, you must have the jig setup within the guideline set forward by Oneway in their instructions. They’re setup instructions state that the center of the wheel needs to be 6.25 to 6.5 from the top of the jig V arm. Set the Vari-Grind at about 25 degree angle and put the tool angle sample in the jig as show. The front should protrude by 2 ½".

My only complaint is that I do think I will need to buy the OneWay Vari-Grind jig to get a good side grind on my bowl gouges - without it, the profile you're left with is more suited to gouges to work the bottom of bowls. The box (for the Vari-grind) came with the same DVD as the base kit and even though it SAYS it has video for the Vari-grind 2 on it, it does not. There was a one page sheet in the box with a "new way to index the tool" but nothing else. No manual no nothing.
